FAQs
There's a lot of very poor information around about low carb and keto ways of eating - some of it from opponents who still want you to restrict calories, eat low fat, high fibre, low sodium etc., and some of it from people who haven't thoroughly researched the topic and don't understand it well. Ask yourself how 50 years of that advice has worked out for everyone!? Here at KetoChoice, we have done our research - and here are brief answers to the top questions we get asked - more detail is given in the programme.

What is Low Carb?
We know now that it isn't eating fat that makes you fat - or unhealthy - it's actually carbohydrates which promote fat storage and leads to metabolic ill-health! Low Carb is a way of eating which reduces the carbs to a point where your body looks for alternative sources of energy - and starts to burn fat you've eaten (and fat you have already stored) instead. Low carb is your gentle introduction to using fat for fuel. We'll also show you the other ingredients in your food which are keeping the stubborn pounds around your waist and hips and why they are a health disaster. So a Low Carb way of eating is also a 'cleaned up' version of an average diet - taking out the toxic nonsense - with reversal of conditions like Type 2 Diabetes and Arthritis possible for everyone.
What is Keto?
Keto is short for Ketosis - a natural state for your body where you use mostly fat for energy and keep your blood sugars in a very healthy range. This takes your weightloss and healing to the next stage. It is possible to reclaim the energy, vitality, health and bodyshape of a 25 year old - even in retirement. It is possible to come off those long term medications for Diabetes and High Blood Pressure which we thought we were stuck with! This is proven science and it's happening to thousands of people right now - let us show you how.
What special foods do I need to buy to get into Ketosis?
None. Nada. Nothing. You can achieve Ketosis just by changing the ratio of foods you put on your plate. We can help you with advice on low carbohydrate foods - but if you can eat whole foods (rather than ultra-processed foods), you can still eat most of the foods which you already love.
Do I need to restrict or count calories on a low carb or keto diet?
No - Low Carb and Keto really are the easiest way of eating. You make up your meal from the right proportions or ratio of protein, fat, and (limited) carbohydrates - and then eat until you are comfortably full, at every meal. No-one should have to calorie-restrict to lose weight - it is unsustainable and can be counter-productive.
What is 'Dirty Keto'?
The fastest and healthiest way to achieve fat-burning, health-promoting ketosis is to choose whole, unprocessed foods and that's what we recommend. There are people who eat some ultra-processed foods and still manage to achieve ketosis, but it is much more difficult to do and much more likely to fail in the long term, because of all the unnatural ingredients in them.
Is it safe?
Yes - naturally, ketosis is the state that babies are born in and it has long been used therapeutically to treat epilepsy (the brain prefers ketones!) and many other disorders, like Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease - and more - are now being improved or reversed using low carb and ketogenic dietary interventions.
